Fei Cui commercial Study Tour and Carving Workshop Concludes Successfully

   

 

The Gemological Institute of Asia (AGIL) successfully held a jadeite business inspection and jade carving polishing experience course led by Dr. Dominic Mok from December 7th to 9th , 2024. This event designed to immerse participants in traditional jade culture, carving techniques, and the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage. Not only just a business study tour , but also explored historical context, original design, and the fusion of traditional and modern approaches. It was a journey of discovery, connecting with history, culture, and the spirit of craftsmanship. More than twenty students, guests, instructors, and staff engaged with the vibrant world of jade , sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and exploring the future of jade culture.

 

 

The tour began with a visit to the bustling Pingzhou Jade Market in Foshan. One of the largest jade wholesale market in China. Participants gained insights into market dynamics, price trends, and consumer preferences, engaging in discussions with vendors about the industry's future. After that , the study group visited the Customizing Computer Jade Carving and Qingdong Jadeite Center. The precision of CNC machinery alongside the meticulous detail of hand-carving sparked lively discussions. Students broadened perspectives by showcasing jade culture from a different region in the Myanmar Jadeite and Guatemala Jateite Market. Finally, the observation of a live-streaming sales session at the Twilight Market provided firsthand experience of diverse online and offline sales models in the dynamic e-commerce landscape.

Heritage of Artistry and Cultural Immersion

The art of jade carving with a workshop at the prestigious Wenbaozhai Jade Museum, a national center for the inheritance of jade culture. Particpants connected with the material under the expert guidance of Master Jade Carver Liao Jinwen who was Tiangong Award winner , feeling the smooth texture of jade as they practiced carving and polishing techniques. Master Liao shared his extensive knowledge, covering every step from material selection and design to carving and polishing, providing invaluable insights. The juxtaposition of modern technology and traditional techniques sparked creative inspiration, deepening understanding of the intricacies of jade carving. Participants received certificates from the Asian Gemological Institute and Wenbaozhai Jade Museum after completion, along with a personally signed piece by Master Liao – a treasured memento that reinforced their commitment. The day concluded with a visit to the Yubocheng Jade Market, where the vast array of exhibits further showcased the scale and diversity of the jade market.

 

 

A delicious Cantonese lunch, a relaxed setting for reflection and sharing insights from the past few days. The afternoon involved exploring the Hetian jade and colored gemstone trade, learning about market trends and cultural significance of different jade varieties. The tour culminated in a celebratory dinner featuring Shunde cuisine, a fitting end to a rewarding and memorable experience. The event not only deepened participants' understanding of jade culture but also strengthened industry connections and collaboration, injecting new vitality into the development of the jade sector.
