The MoI was signed by HKMU S&T Head of Construction and Quality Management Ir Dr Tony Lee and Principal of AGIL Dr. Dominic Mok. Under the MoI, both parties will closely collaborate to promote the exchange of academic and scientific research in gemmology, and to cultivate outstanding talent for, and the sustainable development of, the industry.
Addressing the ceremony, Dean of S&T Ir Prof. Philips Wang stated: “Hong Kong, as a global jewellery trade centre, has seen increasing demand from emerging markets in recent years, providing a revival opportunity for the jewellery industry. This not only consolidates Hong Kong’s leading position in international gem trading, but also provides more innovation and cooperation opportunities for the industry. Therefore, the collaboration between S&T and AGIL is particularly timely and meaningful. Through our joint efforts, we will further consolidate Hong Kong as an excellent destination for gemmological education, testing and certification, research, and industry development.”
Principal of AGIL Dr. Dominic Mok remarked that as a globally significant jewellery trading centre, Hong Kong enjoys a highly esteemed international reputation. With over 40 years of expertise in jewellery education, AGIL has a collection of over 10,000 precious gemstone specimens and standard stones. AGIL is dedicated to providing high-quality gemmological education and research and promoting the development of, and innovation in, the gemstone industry. To further enhance the level of jewellery education in Hong Kong, AGIL signed an MoI with HKMU to jointly advance the development of jewellery education in Hong Kong and cultivate more gemmological talent with an international perspective and professional skills. This collaboration will usher in a new chapter in Hong Kong’s gemstone and jewellery education, infusing new vitality into the jewellery industry and showcasing its brilliance on the international stage. Both parties will collaborate and leverage their respective strengths to make a greater contribution to the development of Hong Kong's jewellery industry, creating a brighter future for all.
