2022年澳門畢業生 - 陳業佳 Chan Ip Kai

I have been fascinated by gemstones and minerals since childhood, but I was unaware of the existence of dedicated courses to learn about them. To enhance my knowledge in this field, I actively sought out gemstone-related courses. My foundation course instructor informed me that the Asian Gemmological Institute and Laboratory (AGIL) in Hong Kong offered Gem-A courses, which are accredited by the Gemological Association of Great Britain. I enrolled without hesitation!

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted our plans and necessitated online instruction, Principal Mok and the AGIL instructors remained dedicated to our education. They tirelessly communicated with us, arranged our learning, and consistently provided us with numerous gemstone samples and equipment. With the support of my classmates and the AGIL instructors, we diligently improved our practical skills. Principal Mok generously shared his expertise by showcasing rare gemstone specimens during our free time, enriching our knowledge and experience.

The pandemic's recurring outbreaks prevented us, the Macau students, from traveling to Hong Kong to take the Gem-A exam. However, thanks to the meticulous arrangements of Dr. Mok, Principal of the AGIL, and the unwavering support of my classmates, we successfully advocated for the establishment of the first Gem-A examination center in Macau for AGIL students. This achievement allowed me to be among the inaugural group of students to take the exam in Macau and achieve a passing grade.

This precedent of holding the Gem-A exam in Macau, coupled with the AGIL's unwavering support, will significantly contribute to the future establishment of a permanent examination center in Macau.

Finally, I express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Mok, all the faculty and staff of the AGIL, and my fellow classmates. Without Dr. Mok's guidance, the instructors' dedication, and the camaraderie, mutual support, and help of my classmates, I would not have been able to achieve such good results. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
