Course Introduction

Programme Aims
This programme offering a comprehensive foundation in diamond testing and grading that integrates theory with practical application. It covers the essential characteristics of diamonds and the detailed principles of grading systems, providing participants with a thorough understanding of diamond valuation standards. Students will learn to operate specialized testing instruments and grading tools, equipping them with the skills to evaluate diamonds accurately.

Admission Requirements:
1. Completion of New Senior Secondary (NSS) Form 6 or the old academic system Form 5 or an equivalent academic qualification ; and
2. At least 1 year of work experience in the jewelry industry; or
3. Completion of a course on general knowledge of gemstones; or
4. Passing an entrance exam on general gemstone knowledge.

Class Hours:
30 hours of face-to-face instruction,
5 hours of assessment,
48 hours of self-study,
totaling 83 hours.

• Each student enrolled in the "Basic Diamond Testing and Grading Certificate (Level 3 of the Qualifications Framework)" course will be provided with 20 hours of free additional internship time.

This course is eligible for the 'Continuing Education Fund', and qualified applicants may receive up to HK$10,780.00 as reimbursement, meaning students only need to pay HK$3,020.00 to study this course.

Certificate Award:
Students must meet the following graduation requirements to receive a graduation certificate:
(i) The overall attendance rate must be 80% or above; and
(ii) Must achieve passing scores (70% or above) in both the midterm and final assessments.

Course Assessment:
Practical Exercises (40%):
Multiple-choice questions (12%); Practical questions (28%).
Students have one chance for a retake in the midterm exam.
Final Assessment (30%): Multiple-choice questions (6%); Short answer questions (9%); Practical questions (45%).
Students have one chance for a retake in the final exam.
