Mr Dominic Mok, the founder and current Principal of the Asian Gemmological Institute & Laboratory Limited (AGIL), possesses 38 years of experience in the jewellery trade and is bith a professional geologist and a Accredited Gemmologist (Expert). Mr. Mok has espoused "Integrity" as AGIL's mission from the beginning and he strictly adheres to the ethical principle of not being involved in jewellery trading. He utilises advanced, high-tech instruments in his gem testing and annual jewellery audit appraisal services. All clients' relevant information is kept strictly confidential.

 

Mr Mok and his testing team members have accomplished a number of "first" in gem testing in Hng Kong. In the spring of 1993, AGIL issued the first ever Jadeite Testing Report in Hong Kong using an Infrared Sectrometer. Mr Mok has always devoted himself to raising the bar in Hing Kong gem testing. He has conducted research on Fei Cui, diamonds and rubies, and published his research articles in different media. In January 2005, Mr. Mok led AGIL to futher professional recognition. AGIL was the first gemmological laboratory in Hong Kong granted HOKLAS ISO 17025 authorised qualification for Fei Cui Jadeite Jade testing and is accredited by the Hong Kong Accredititation Service(HKAS) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.


AGIL starts teaching FGA courses in 1983 and it is one of the earliest registered Accredited Teaching Centre (ATC) of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A). AGIL is authorized to teach FGA/DGA gemmology courses in Chinese and English. AGIL's graduates granted three times World No.1 "Best Candidate" of FGA/DGA exams. with Tully Medal in 1992; Anderson Bank Prize in 1992, Gem Diamond Diploma - Bruton Prize in 1997, Mok Diamond Practical Prize in 2009 and the Deeks Diamond Prize in 2014.

The Insititute possesses abundant gem testing samples, AGIL has collected over 10,000 pieces of gem samples with more than 200 categories and diamond grading samples from A to Z category for students' identification practice and preparation for FGA/DGA open examination.

Concerning the teaching facilities, the Institute provides each student a set of identification instruments throughout the class, so that they may identify gems independently. Furthermore, students may schedule their identification practical period flexibly to reach an idea learning effect. The Institute has its own library collecting various kinds of gems and jewellery books for students' reference. In pace with the demand of the gem industry, the Institute has tailor-made training programs to meet the unique object. For example, courses on Jewellery salesmanship, jewellery photography techniques and jewellery design, etc.
