International Gemmological Conference Summary
DES-AGIL 2018/19 International Gemmological Conference was held at the Wang Gungwu Lecture Hall, Graduate House, The University of Hong Kong, on 3rd March 2019. This conference was jointly organized by The Department of Earth Sciences, The University of Hong Kong and Asian Gemmological Institute and Laboratory Limited.
International renowned experts in Gem Minerals and Gemmology from the United State of America, Australia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong were invited to deliver their latest findings and studies on the topics covering Alexandrite, Opal, Jade, Jewelry Technology and Chemical Fingerprint Analysis. The event was attended by 200 participants including local and international famous gemmologists. Simultaneous interpretation of English and Mandarin was provided during the conference, which facilitated the exchange and discussion between the East and West.
The Graduate House was a perfect academic venue with comfortable and natural environment which set a perfect scene for this conference full of knowledge exchange, sharing and discussion. The event was followed by a tour of the Stephen Hui Geological Museum which showed the collection of rare geology materials and precious gemstones. The participants were impressed and surprised by knowing that there was such a wide range of collection in The University of Hong Kong.
